Cough It Up

“Cough it Up!”, born in Cleveland, raised in San Jose since 1986. This man is truly the most abstract, edgy, intricate, versatile producer alive...A second generation musician, the timing is embedded in his DNA, rhythm pumps through his blood. His father (RIP) was a well rounded Soul Musician. Meaning he was fluent in practically any instrument he could get his hands on. Cough was drawn into the Hip Hop culture by Graffiti, by 1990 he started to rhyme, sharping his blade with Persevere, then by 1996 he started plucking the ivory on the EPS. His very first batch of beats were off the chain. People immediately seen the talent, even was approached by manager proposals. He played his beats for his Underbomber Comrade Zest the SMoker. Zest is very picky, and at that time would probably only rock about 1 out of 50 beats he would hear. But when he heard Coughs first batch, he jumped on 9 out of 10 of them. Zest and Cough formed Camp Crystal Lake, which was to include all Underbomber members and the members of Zest’s Sunflower comrades in Southern California, H.P. (Hyena Pack). Over the years Cough slowly put rhymin’ on the backburner, but don’t sleep he still got them sniper skills. Very elusive and thought provoking lyrics, can be compared to likes of Masta Killa and Saafir, but definitely in his own right. Maybe being a lyricist with witty timing contributes to his production style, ”He knows the mind of a Rhymer, he knows what they want and need”. Maybe, who knows, but in my book Cough gets 5 Kudos!
